Maximizing Technologies In Automotive Computing

This seminar takes a comprehensive look at which new technologies are worth purchasing versus which are costing dealers time and money with little or no return.

May 24-25 in Grand Junction, Loveland and Colorado Springs!

Who Should Attend: Dealers, General Managers and Controllers

With the advent of new solutions and technologies, The Paul Gillrie Institute has developed new computer pricing schedules and current, effective rules and techniques to reach those prices. The price of any computer system is determined by the buyer’s knowledge of the computer industry and his/her negotiating strategy.

• Our presenter will walk you through the processes of understanding and communicating with the DMS providers
• How to analyze and reduce monthly computer expenses; identify unnecessary costs or over-billing
• You can bring your monthly bills and ask questions. Eighty percent of a dealer’s expense is in the recurring monthly charges.
• Instruct you in optimal negotiating strategy and how to use it to guarantee substantial discounts on both hardware costs and software maintenance “monthlies”.
• Inform Dealerships who typically face a computer acquisition or upgrade every three to five years.

NEW FEDERAL LAW INCLUDES TAX BENEFITS FOR EMPLOYERS (APRIL 2010)

HIRE Act: Questions and Answers for Employers

NADA Regulatory News & Updates
Under the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, enacted March 18, 2010, two new tax benefits are available to employers who hire certain previously unemployed workers (“qualified employees”).

The first, referred to as the payroll tax exemption, provides employers with an exemption from the employer’s 6.2 percent share of social security tax on wages paid to qualifying employees, effective for wages paid from March 19, 2010 through December 31, 2010.

In addition, for each qualified employee retained for at least 52 consecutive weeks, businesses will also be eligible for a general business tax credit, referred to as the new hire retention credit, of 6.2 percent of wages paid to the qualified employee over the 52 week period, up to a maximum credit of $1,000.

Visit the IRS page on this topic for more information.

SECOND DEALER RIGHTS BILL OF THE SESSION HEADED TO GOVERNOR RITTER

SB 201 by Sen. Shawn Mitchell (R-Broomfield) and Sen. Chris Romer (D-Denver), which substantially increases penalties against automakers that do not comply with HB 1049, passed out of the House of Representatives on third reading and final passage on Friday by a vote of 54-11.  The legislation passed out of the Senate 35-0 last week.

In a last minute move and without notice to CADA, House Majority leader Paul Weissmann (D-Louisville), ran an amendment to SB 201 to eliminate the ban on Sunday Sales of motor vehicles.  After debate by both proponents and opponents of the amendment, the amendment failed by a wide margin.  Rep. Weissmann then ran a second amendment that would have increased the punishment against any dealer operating on Sunday.  This amendment similarly failed by a large margin.

SB 201 provides authority for the Executive Director of the Department of Revenue to impose fines between $10,000 and $25,000 per day on any automaker who refuses to honor Colorado statutes specific to dealers that were terminated in bankruptcy.  The bill now heads to Governor Ritter for his signature.  Once signed, the bill will become law immediately.  To view a copy of SB 201, please click here.
