MOTOR VEHICLE DEALER BOARD APPROVES LICENSE FEE DECREASE OF 35%
The Motor Vehicle Dealer Board approved a decrease of licensing fees of 35%. This reduction in fees comes after last year’s increase of almost 90%. Various cost cutting measures, temporary staff re-assignments, and the assumption that major drop-offs in licenses have subsided gave the board and the Auto Industry Division (AID) a comfort level that this decrease level will still ensure that AID will operate in the black throughout the next year. Further, there is always a balancing act in ensuring there is an adequate reserve fund, but not too large of a fund that the legislature may be tempted to dip into it for general state purposes.
Generally, the rate decrease is 35%, however, the Board did decide to increase fees for off-premise permits, from $115 to $250. In part, this increase is intended to address the added enforcement and staff time required for off-premise sales.
CLICK HERE for the new fees, effective July 1, 2010.
