REMINDER: NEW ONLINE SALESPERSON LICENSING EXAMINATION REQUIRES MORE PREPARATION

As most know by now, as of August 30th, 2010 the salesperson licensing exam must now be taken on line.  While in the past, it may have been possible to pass the written exam without any preparation or familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, that is no longer the case.  Most who come in without any preparation are failing the exam. The test is harder for a number of reasons:  the questions vary each time, the time allowed is only ninety minutes (it was unlimited before), and test-takers are not able to see which questions were missed, to then go look-up and eventually find the right answers.  Part of the purpose of the salesperson licensing exam is to ensure that salespeople have a general familiarity with all the laws and regulations relevant to the business in which they will be operating—to avoid violations that could be costly to both the dealership and the salesperson.  It is important that all salespeople have a good working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.

So, just a reminder that your prospective salespersons really need to review and study the materials in advance of attempting to take the exam.

Visit the recent article, New Online Salesperson Licensing Examination Now Required as of Monday, August 30th (CADA Open Road, August 31, 2010) for more details on the new exam.

In a great lesson for the benefit of reviewing the statutes and regulations, a salesperson recently taking the exam found a relevant provision indicating that she did not need to be taking the exam in the first place!  See the following Q&A:

Q.

If I am renewing my license do I need to take the mastery exam?

A.

If you are renewing your license you do not need to re-take the mastery exam. If your license expired more than a year ago, you will need to take the exam.

CADA LEGISLATIVE POLICY COMMITTEE DEALER MEETINGS

The CADA Legislative Policy Committee is scheduling dealer meetings with Colorado state legislators in order to increase awareness and gain support for the many policy issues expected to face auto dealers in the upcoming session of the Colorado General Assembly which convenes January 12, 2011.

Several meetings are planned and you are invited to participate in as many of the meetings as you are able to do.

The primary purpose of this series of brief get-togethers is to foster and advance relationships between CADA member dealers and Colorado’s elected leaders.

The following topics areas are expected to be covered in each session:

  • Auto industry issues in general
  • Colorado dealer issues in particular
  • Proposals to repeal Colorado’s ban on Sunday sales of automobiles
  • Growing class action litigation against the auto retail industry
  • Trends in auto sales in state and nationally
  • Sales tax jurisdictional issues

With the economic challenges faced by the industry today, it is more important than ever that state legislators get the opportunity to hear from you on issues of importance to you and your business.

WEBINAR: CASE STUDIES IN SUCCESSFUL CUSTOMER LOYALTY

How dealerships are bringing them back again and again!

11:00am(MDT), Thursday – September 9, 2010

Everyone knows that is should be easier to re-sell an existing customer than it is to go out and find a new one. The basic building blocks of customer loyalty are a quality product or service delivered at fair prices, but also in a way that makes your customers know that they are appreciated and valued.

Customer Loyalty programs and systems abound - just how do you know which one, if any, will work best in your dealership. On September 9th visit with Mike Gorun from MediaTrack as we explore case studies of successful customer loyalty initiatives in the dealership environment.

Presented BY: Mike Gorun, MediaTrack

Cost:  CADA Members $169 / Non-Members $298.00

How Service Managers are re-vamping business plans to open up a market segment previously dominated by the corner garage and chain retailers!

11:00am(MDT), Thursday – September 16, 2010

Learn what is different about the "corner garage" that keeps customers coming back over and over again. Ed Kovalchick is a nationally-known service management trainer and has devoted a majority of his time studying what makes the corner garage tick. His findings will amaze you.

On Sept 16th Ed will profile several dealership service departments that have transformed a segment of their shop into “The Garage” with some amazing results. It takes a change of mindset – Learn to make it work in your dealership and open up a whole new business in service.

WEBINAR: HOW TO CREATE A CONSISTENT SELLING PROCESS ON THE SERVICE DRIVE

How service departments achieve huge sales increases by consistently delivering a professional selling presentation!

11:00am(MDT), Thursday – September 23, 2010

How can your service department create the consistent selling process so often in evidence in the showroom? This question has vexed dealers and service managers for decades. The selling discipline taught and enforced in so many dealership showrooms is almost always absent once you get to the service drive.

System-selling guru, Steve Kwiatkowski of Liqqid Inc. will bring you real life examples of dealerships employing new tools to maximize maintenance package sales. Hear from real world dealer and service managers as they share with you how their success was realized.

  • Kia moves to change its image, hamsters and all
    MSNBC, September 3
As a valet pulls up in front of the upscale Chops restaurant in Atlanta’s fashionable Buckhead neighborhood, a middle-aged businessman takes the keys and sheepishly looks around. “It’s only a rental car,” he says, as if the 2010 Kia Optima he’s driving is a mark of shame.
  • Auto bailouts chiseled out of conflicts and tension
    The Detroit News, September 4
Few people got a closer view of the frantic, messy $85 billion government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler than presidential auto adviser Steve Rattner.
  • Hyundai to Tap a Kia Plant
The Wall Street Journal, September 1
Hyundai Motor Co., which has been gaining market share in the U.S., is moving production of its Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle from its plant in Alabama to a new plant owned by affiliate Kia Motors Corp. in Georgia, a Hyundai spokesman said Tuesday.
