AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A
GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the
auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

CADA TO OFFER CUSTOMIZABLE MODEL PRIVACY NOTICE FORMS

CADA will be able to take orders in the next day or two for customized, two-part model privacy forms. The prior ‘initial privacy notice’ form that we offered here is impacted by the model privacy notice changes.  See the Nov. 16, 2010 article, Model Privacy Notice: New Agency-Provided Forms Offer Safe Harbor

It is strongly recommended by attorneys that dealerships utilize the FTC model fill-in forms without changes.   We will be able to offer an attorney-provided guidance summary sheet, take your customized field information, and have these forms printed for you.  If you are interested in this service, please contact lauren.stadler@coloradodealers.org / 303.457.5123, and we will provide you with the order form and checklist as soon as they are finalized.  Turnaround time will be approximately 3-5 business days from order to delivery at your store.

SALES/USE TAX CHANGES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2011

The state tax division has started to post upcoming tax changes effective January 1, 2011.  Dealerships should be on the lookout to ensure the third party tax databases are reflecting these.  There may be a time-lag between the effective date and the update of these data sources.

CLICK HERE for a listing of January 1, 2011 Sales Tax Rate Changes

Additional Home Rule changes:

Additionally there are two other changes to home rule jurisdictions of which we are aware, but have not been added to the list above yet – both are also effective January 1, 2011:

  • Fort Collins city sales and use tax rates will increase from 3% to 3.85%
    • A Fort Collins City Tax Increase measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot. This measure sought to increase the city sales and use tax rates by .85% in order to help further pay for road maintenance projects, police and fire services as well as park maintenance services in the city.  It passed 60% yes, to 40% no.   Visit http://www.fcgov.com/salestax/ for more information.
  • The Town of Castle Rock will have a motor vehicle sales and use tax rate increase from 3.6% to 4%.

Please check back to the state site above in advance of the January 1st effective date.

DINNER WITH COLORADO'S REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION IN WASHINGTON DC

Please join CADA for a very exclusive and private dinner with Colorado’s Republican caucus at the Occidental Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC at 7:00 p.m on the evening of January 4, 2011.  This private dealer-only dinner will be attended by Congressman Doug Lamborn, Congressman Mike Coffman, Congressman-Elect Scott Tipton, and Congressman-Elect Cory Gardner.  This dinner is open to all Colorado dealers and their spouses and please note that it is not a fundraiser.  This will be an excellent opportunity for dealers to spend quality time with Colorado’s Republican delegation to discuss issues of importance to Colorado’s dealer body.  CADA will cover the cost of the dinner, but all dealers must cover their own air fare and hotel accommodations.  Space is limited, so to RSVP, please contact Lauren Stadler at Lauren.stadler@coloradodealers.org by Friday, December 31, 2010.

HOUSE DEMOCRATS ANNOUNCE NEW CHIEF OF STAFF

DENVER – Minority Leader-elect Sal Pace of Pueblo announced this morning that Paul Weissmann of Louisville will be joining the House Democrats as their Chief of Staff.

Yes, that Paul Weissmann: former Senator, former Representative, and current Majority Leader serving with Speaker Terrance Carroll.

"I feel like we snagged the big one!" said Minority Leader Pace.  "Few folks have the breadth of experience that Paul has.  He will bring to our team his wisdom gleaned from years serving in both the House and the Senate, in both the minority and majority caucuses, and the most recent redistricting year.”

“Paul has managed the Blue Parrot restaurant in Lousiville for years, and he understands how to run government like a business, with an eye on the bottom line and balancing the budget.  He is widely respected in the Capitol and among stakeholders for his commitment to bi-partisanship.  His deep understanding of the issues and of legislative process, and his integrity and ethics make him a natural fit.  It doesn't hurt that like all good bartenders, he has a great sense of humor and an ability to listen to others.  I'm so pleased he he’ll be on our team."
