2011 DENVER AUTO SHOW

TAX JURISDICTION DATABASE ALERT: CITY OF LOUISVILLE USE TAX CHANGE MISSING

After receiving some title rejections from Boulder County, a dealership notified us of local tax rates that are incorrect in the available tax jurisdiction databases.

First, the City of Louisville USE tax and SALES tax should both be 3.5%.

  • The USE tax changed effective January 1, 2011 and Group1/Pitney Bowes displays the old rate.
  • The SALES tax is incorrect in IDS (the state system)
    • NOTE: the state system and publications do not track or display use taxes in self-collected, home-rule cities (those are only found in Group1).

CLICK HERE for City of Louisville 2011 tax rates

Second, in the City of Aurora, Arapahoe County, a customer address was missing RTD and a stadium taxes (an additional 1.1% in taxes).

CLICK HERE for a current overview of taxes for the city of Aurora (spans Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties).

Both the state and the third party company have been notified; for now, dealerships should double-check addresses in these areas.

STATE FORM CHANGE: DR 2842 SUPPLEMENTAL SECURE AND VERIFIABLE IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION
Cut-off Date:  5/1/2011

The state Titles & Registration section has sent notice that the form, DR 2842, Supplemental Secure and Verifiable Identification Information and Attestation Clause has been revised.  The new revision date is 1/26/11.  The new form can be used immediately.  Further, the state allows a period of ninety (90) days from the date of public notice (2/1/2011) to deplete prior, existing form inventory.

Additionally, as a reminder, the cut-off date applies to the date of use (contract date), not the date received at the county.  As of 5/1/11, dealerships should ensure use of the revised form.

WEBINAR: SIX-STEP PROCESS FOR CONDUCTING A STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION IN YOUR DEALERSHIP

Spend less time “fighting fires” and focus more on growing your dealership!

Many dealership managers spend unnecessary time reacting to “urgents” and the “unexpected” rather than allocating time and energy addressing the “business-building task”.  Strategic planning (not budgeting and forecasting) makes us more effective by forcing us to look towards the future – from one quarter to as far as a year or more.

Strategic planning is about a specific set of actions, assigned to specific managers.  It helps managers to better focus on what is most important and makes them accountable.  Learn to create solid growth goals and the plans to make them happen.  Join Steve Nickelsen of the Nickelsen Partners as he reveals a six step process designed specifically for retail car dealerships.  Call it your Strategic Plan for creating a successful Strategic Plan!

WEBINAR: HOW THE "BEST-OF-THE-BEST" PARTS ADVISORS GET IT DONE EVERY DAY

Habits of highly effective Parts Advisors – What makes them great!

It may seem like a relatively minor role in the operation of a profitable dealership; however the role of the Parts Advisor is a very important cog in the creation of an effective and profitable process in fixed operations.

When they perform with great efficiency they go almost unnoticed, however, when they are not doing their jobs, the complaints are many.  Join us on February 24th as we explore the habits of highly effective Parts Advisors – What makes them great at their jobs and a valuable asset to your dealership.

Richard Owen of ROI Consulting, Inc. will dissect the position of Parts Advisor and outline for all why this position is important and how the very “best of the best” go about their daily tasks.  This webinar is an eye-opener for your current Advisors, as well as an excellent “new hire” training and orientation session.
