Listed here are several articles pertaining to the
auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

REMINDER: LICENSE FEES INCREASED JULY 1ST

The Motor Vehicle Dealer Board approved a 5% increase in license fees for July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.  CLICK HERE for  the latest fee schedule.  A dealer license is now $435, and a new salesperson application is $105.  Off-premise sales applications remained the same at $250.  A reminder that license fees are subject to change once each year on July 1st, and the new schedule is always made available on the Auto Industry web site prior to July 1st each year.  Visit http://www.colorado.gov/revenue/AID under “Forms and Publications”.   Be sure to remit the updated fee amount—most state license application forms do not include the fee amount since they are subject to change each year.

MOTOR VEHICLE DEALER BOARD UPDATES

New members were installed and officers were elected to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board last month. Two positions were re-appointed, and Joe Gebhardt of Davidson-Gebhardt Chevrolet and Subaru was appointed for his first term.  John Medved, Medved Autoplex and Beau Smith, Sill-TerHar Motors, were re-elected as President and 1st VP of the board respectively.

CADA thanks all of those who make time to serve on this board; it is very important to the retail auto industry in Colorado.  Thank you to Scott Ehrlich, Ehrlich dealership group, who had served from 2009.   Other prior franchise dealer members of the board in recent years included Jeff Carlson (served as board President),  Glenwood Springs (Ford - Lincoln and Subaru) and Lisa Schomp, Schomp Automotive.

Additionally, Matt Cook, head of the Enforcement section of the Department of Revenue has retired.  His replacement is George Baker Thompson, Jr., previously Corporate Counsel at Qwest. Upon his departure, Matt Cook advised the Board that the new state administration is pursuing some broad changes:

  1. The Governor wants all state government to be “Elegant, Effective, and Efficient”.  All Divisions are being asked to examine their processes and seek to make them more user friendly.
  2. The Governor’s office wants all Boards and Commissions to be appointed with ‘new blood’  It is likely that existing members may not be re-appointed for subsequent terms.
  3. About 96 State Executive Service officers who work on annual contracts were asked to reapply for their positions by the Governor.

Minutes of Board meetings are now available online on the Auto Industry Division website under “Motor Vehicle Dealer Board”:  http://www.colorado.gov/revenue/AID.

FREE WEBINAR: SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SERVICE AND COLLISION CENTERS
DOT, OSHA and EPA Compliance Priorities for Automotive Service and Collision Repair Centers.

Automobile Services and Collision Repair Centers provide special challenges in the environmental, health, and safety arena. The workplace is inherently dangerous - with automotive lifts, hazardous materials, and often a high turnover of employees working in areas with special safety considerations. Join Chuck Elliott to learn the top things these facilities must do to maintain and stay in compliance.

Presented by Chuck Elliot

Chuck Elliott is an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer and SouthEast District Manager for KPA based in Atlanta, Georgia.  He holds both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Georgia.

A SPECIAL NOTICE FROM FISHER HONDA KIA

On Friday, July 29th, Madelyne Fisher passed away at the age of 89. Many of you knew Madelyne, and will remember her beautiful, larger-than-life personality. We’d like to share with you something about her that you may, however, not know.

When Bob Fisher returned home from service in WWII, he and Madelyne married. He didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. Madelyne, knowing how much Bob enjoyed cars, encouraged him to start reconditioning and selling used cars. He took her advice, and before long, the couple shared a dream of owning their own car dealership.

Nearly 50 years later, what started as a dream has become so much more. Today, Bob & Madelyne’s son and daughter, Craig and Lynn operate the dealership. If it weren’t for Madelyne, it’s likely Fisher Honda Kia wouldn’t exist. We hope you will join us in gratitude to Madelyne Fisher for inspiring the dream that brings everyone at Fisher together today.

We’d also like to share with you the joyous news that on July 28th, Craig’s daughter Courtney and her husband Mark welcomed their 2nd child – a daughter they’ve named Madelyne Allyson Brady. Both mother and child are in excellent health, and we all adore the latest addition to our family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Madelyne Fisher to: VistaCare Hospice - 4350 Wadsworth Blvd. Suite 250 - Wheatridge, CO 80033

Sincerely,

The Fisher Family
