UPDATED SALES/USE TAX SUMMARY LIST, FORM DR1002 NOW AVAILABLE
Latest revision, Jan. 18, 2012 Reflects January 1st Tax Changes
The Colorado Department of Revenue updates a listing of sales/use tax rates by jurisdiction within a few weeks of those changes—January 1st and July 1st each year. While most dealers primarily rely upon tax databases that provide rates by specific address (see article below), this list can serve as a quick reference. Note that this summary includes a list of all home-rule cities that are self-collected – but while it includes sales tax rates in those jurisdictions, it does not list the respective use tax, if one exists. The latest update is available at: http://www.colorado.gov/cms/forms/dor-tax/dr1002.pdf
**ALERT: The state IDS system as of last week had not been updated to remove the .1% Football district tax. With the exception of leases that were made on or before Dec. 31, 2011, as of January 1, 2012, this tax should no longer be collected. Visit, Open Road, Dec. 6, 2011 for more on this and other recent changes.

REMINDER OF DATABASES PROVIDING TAX RATES BY ADDRESS
As a reminder, there are currently two primary sources of tax rate data by address—one provided by the state and the other source third party companies. On occasion, one may be more accurate than the other; the best recommendation is to check both whenever possible and try to say on top of changes. CLICK HERE for links to certified, third party companies providing Colorado tax rates by address—there are currently two.
Group 1 (a Pitney Bowes Company). Of the two third party company solutions, Group 1’s service is currently offered at no cost. This database continues to be updated regularly and must maintain 95% reliability to retain its ‘certified’ status. Registration for the Group 1 solution is available at: http://taxco.g1.com/COTaxLookup/CentrusDemo.aspx
State Address Locator/ Integrated Data System
Most counties rely on their own, internal tax “locator files” that in-turn feed into the state IDS (Integrated Data System). Typically, IDS is being maintained and updated, but on occasion, some updates do not make it onto the state system. It is still advised that dealerships retain access to and check both IDS and Group1 when possible to identify potential tax discrepancies before sending title paperwork. Note that the state IDS system does not include use tax rates. Visit the link below for more information—and please be sure to report any discrepancies between IDS and Group 1 to CADA so we can report to the relevant database provider.
DOR Memo, Dec. 31, 2008, IDS Locator Address Tax Records System
***IDS (INTEGRATED DATA SYSTEM) LOCATOR ADDRESS TAX RECORDS (LATR) ***
The program appears in the drop down menu after you sign into IDS at http://ids.dor.state.co.us the title of this item is Locator Address Tax Records (LATR). To register for the IDS program, use the web site at: http://ids.dor.state.co.us and sign up using the “New User” IDS Link.

NADA REMINDS DEALERS TO PROTECT THEIR DATA
Regulatory Affairs has prepared and disseminated to NADA members a Dealer Alert entitled “Are You In Control of Your Data?” This alert, which follows a similar 2005 alert that NADA issued, reminds dealers of the critical importance of knowing who can access data in their DMS, how that data is used, and what federal and state restrictions may apply to such usage. The alert also explains the availability of extensive educational resources on this and other regulatory compliance topics at: www.nadauniversity.com and www.nada.org/regulatoryaffairs.
