AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the
auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

TITLE PROCESSING: NEW MAKE ABBREVIATIONS **GRACE PERIOD**

The state has provided a 60-day grace period for dealerships to come into compliance with the new make abbreviation codes.  There had been some reports of county rejects for not having the correct code on the form.  Note that dealerships may use the official code OR ensure the make is fully spelled-out so that county personnel are able to assign the correct code.

The Title and Registration Sections, through efforts with the Colorado Auto Dealers, has elected to extend dealers a 60 day grace period to allow for dealers to come into compliance with the 4 digit make abbreviations.

This grace period will be extended through August 13, 2012. Any application received after this date will be required to have either the 4 digit make abbreviation or the make spelled out.

JAGUAR ALIVE DRIVING EXPERIENCE IN DENVER

This event was amazing.  When I first pulled into Sports Authority Field at Mile High parking lot, I couldn’t help but notice the massive course in the parking lot with multiple cars lapping all at the same time. So I grabbed my camera and headed toward the temporary Jaguar headquarters which was a hospitality tent the size of a small car dealership.  The tent included air conditioning, full service caterer, sketch artist and even a vintage E-Type.  I couldn’t stay there very long as my true intentions were to get behind the wheel of those high-powered vehicles.

There were four different driving experience stations.  The first station let participants experience the stability of the car.  Even with it being a mid 90* degree day, they had setup a skid pad simulating a wet or icy road to test the traction control.   The second station is where you’d find a short course followed by a drivability course.  Participants drove over simulated potholes and speed bumps at which drivers would feel the quality of the car.  Last but not least, is the 0-60 speed test in the 550hp XKR-S which achieves sixty mph in a little over four seconds.

The miniature road course was my favorite of the four.  I was determined to set the fastest lap time in the three laps provided.  I hopped in the Jaguar XFR sedan and netted a low 25 sec pass.  The professional drivers were right around the mid to high 23 seconds.  I felt that I could do better in the coupe.  I got three more laps in the XFR coupe and ended up with a 24.71 lap time and pretty much blamed the Jaguar representative for adding an extra 200lbs.  However, I was able to beat Tim Jackson’s lap time but not able to beat World-class professional racecar drivers, including Davy Jones, Roberto Guerrero and others.

After coming down from my gas-fumed, accelerated horsepower high, I realized this is exactly what dreams are made of.  I had the opportunity to drive the cars that I had previously only been able to read about in our favorite car magazines.

COLORADO YELLOW RIBBON EVENT
Colorado Celebrates Her Heroes With Three-Day Statewide Event

‘Colorado Yellow Ribbon Event’ Offers Employment, Support, & Assistance

Colorado's first and only statewide event that welcomes her military troops home and honors those still serving will take place in Denver, Colo. on Aug. 10 – 11, 2012.

Hotels, businesses, military units, nonprofits and state leaders have all joined forces to offer discounts, support and other needed assistance during the event.

“We are hoping for a huge turnout,” said Paula Sarlls, CYRE Committee Chair. “This is not just a parade, this is an event that has a job fair, parade, memorial ceremony and assistance fair so that veterans can get the support they need from our state community.”

The CYRE team is hoping the entire state will support the event with job offers, discounts and other support needed by our veterans – not just current conflict veterans – all of those who have served from Colorado.
