AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the
auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

INTERNET FOCUS GROUP FORMED BY AUTO INDUSTRY DIVISION
Second meeting held in October

The Auto Industry Division has convened an Internet Focus Group to tackle the general need in Colorado to review state laws and regulations in light of various Internet technologies.  Most of the dealer-specific laws and regulations were passed well before the Internet and related marketing technologies were even available. While the need for this comprehensive review has long been known, the effort is a significant undertaking.  However, the recent compliance issues that arose after the True Car model came to the attention of regulators moved this higher on everyone’s priority list.  At the same time, the Governor has mandated that all state agencies plan to review all of their regulations in the next five years, with a goal of 20% per year.

There are numerous gray areas in existing laws and regulations that need to be addressed and clarified.   At this point, the focus group is in the earliest stages, defining specific objectives and a methodology under which to tackle this effort.  Ultimately, the focus group has no authority, but can do much of the detail work and then make recommendations to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board.   The Dealer Board would then consider those recommendations and findings to make their own determinations on any subsequent rulemaking or changes that may be necessary.

CADA’s Dealer-Technology Working Group – Would you like to participate?  To assist with CADA’s efforts on the broader focus group, we are forming a ‘CADA – Dealer Technology Working Group’.   We are looking for dealership personnel interested in providing insights and perspective on current Internet marketing and other related technologies and to assist in providing the dealer perspective on key issues as this effort moves forward.  The members of this CADA working-group will be the ‘sounding-board’ throughout this process.  It is expected this group would meet once a month or so via conference call while the broader coalition is meeting (estimated six months to a year).”    Please email tammi.mccoy@coloradodealers.org if interested.

KPA - NEW ONLINE POSTER STORE AND HR CONSULTING SERVICES

How Old Are Your Labor Law Posters?  Try KPA’s new online poster store
By Kathryn Carlson, Product Director of HR Management Solutions

Have you ever paused in your break room and tried to read the labor law posters hanging on the wall? Perhaps you chuckled when you noticed the ancient soup stains, the faded letters … and the copyright date of 2002. Maybe labor laws have changed since then?

HR professionals are pretty busy. Updating the state and federal labor law posters is one of the many compliance tasks they need to get done as quickly as possible. This is why KPA has launched an easy-to-use online store with state and federal posters for the entire U.S. You can:

  • Buy posters in English, Spanish or bilingual (English and Spanish) formats.
  • Subscribe to annual updates (optional). When revisions happen, updated poster information will be sent to you via email, or replacement posters will be automatically shipped to your site.
  • Receive a separate NLRA poster with the standard state and federal poster combination.
  • Sign up for store coupons and promotions

While a 10-year-old poster covered with Joey’s goulash accident may seem funny when you’re sipping your morning coffee, it can trigger a hefty fine from the Department of Labor. Businesses are required to feature federal and state labor law postings in common areas frequented by employees and applicants.

We hope you’ll enjoy our new Employment and Labor Poster Store. If you have any questions, call one of our labor law poster experts at 1 (888) 369-9013.

CADA Members – Enter the Special Discount Code (“super25”) at check-out for 25% off purchases through 12-31-12.

Other Recent KPA News:  KPA has expanded the HR Management product line to include onsite HR Management Consulting.  KPA’s HR Management Consultants are certified HR professionals with expertise in workforce management for dealerships.  KPA’s HR Management Consultants can assist with:

  • Onsite, systematic audits of HR records
  • Strategic HR programs
  • HR policy development
  • Effectiveness planning for HR
