GUIDANCE AVAILABLE FROM STATE ON RECENT LAWS RESTRICTING EMPLOYER USE OF CREDIT REPORTS AND SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT INFORMATION

Credit Reports:
Under the Employment Opportunity Act, effective, July 1, 2013. (C.R.S. 8-2-126), employers may not request a prospective or current employee's credit report, or use consumer credit information for employment purposes, unless: (1) the credit information is "substantially related" to the employee’s current or potential job, or (2) the person being evaluated or the employer are exempt from the law.   A fact sheet and FAQ’s are available from the state:

Social Media Account Information:
Under the Social Media and the Workplace Law, effective May 11, 2013. (§ 8-2-126, C.R.S.), an employer may not:

  1. Suggest, request, or require that an employer or applicant disclose, or cause an employee  or applicant to disclose, any user name, password, or other means for accessing the employee's or applicant's personal account or service through the employee’s or applicant's personal electronic communications device.

  2. Compel an employee or applicant to add anyone, including the employer or his or her agent, to the employee’s or applicant’s list of contacts associated with a social media account.
  1. Require, request, suggest, or cause an employee or applicant to change privacy settings associated with a social networking account.

PINNACOL ASSURANCE - CPR AND AED TRAINING TO POLICYHOLDERS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES
REMINDER:  Members of the CADA safety program group are required to attend at least two safety seminars each year.  If the two-seminar requirement is not met, the 4% discount will be lost upon renewal and eligibility for group dividends also ends.*

Would you know what to do in the event of a cardiac emergency? Are your employees trained to recognize and care for an injured worker until the paramedics can arrive? CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator) training can help when there may be only minutes to respond.

Pinnacol Assurance is offering CPR and AED training to policyholders and their employees. Topics include:

  • Learn how to perform CPR and respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies
  • Learn how to use an automated external defibrillator
  • Learn how to respond in the event of a choking emergency

The following session will be held at Pinnacol Assurance from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

  • Friday, Nov. 1, 2013

$30 per person. Registration deadline is one week before the dates listed above.
