AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

PARTICIPATION IN 2014 DEALERSHIP WORKFORCE STUDY NOW OPEN

Participation in the 2014 NADA Dealership Workforce Study is now open to NADA and ATD dealer members.

The study, conducted by NADA and ESI Trends (formerly DeltaTrends), is the industry’s most comprehensive analysis of the dealership workforce. It aims to provide dealers with the data to make informed recruiting and hiring decisions and help them meet their number-one challenge: attracting and retaining talented employees.

Dealers can enroll as individual dealerships or dealer groups using a secure, web-based process that involves completing a survey and uploading their payroll data. At the study’s close, each participating dealership will receive a complimentary customized report (Basic Report) comparing its own employee compensation, retention and turnover, work schedules, hours of operation and employee benefits programs against data aggregated on a regional and national basis. Participants also receive, free of charge, the Dealership Workforce Industry Report providing cogent analysis of the industry as a whole, including state-of-the-workforce and demographic trends, plus aggregated compensation, retention, and benefits data for each region of the U.S. Participants can purchase additional customized reports providing even more data.

NADA directors and ATAEs can help promote this important study by encouraging all dealer members in their states and regions to participate; the greater the level of participation, the more accurate the findings can be. Armed with the facts, dealers can address issues such as turnover (sales consultant is the highest turnover position at 62 percent), the “gender gap” (females make up only 18 percent of the dealership workforce), and generational issues such as the need to attract Gen Y employees. The 2013 study showed improvement: Dealerships are hiring more women and Millennials, salaries in general increased, and total dealership employee turnover, at 35 percent, is less than the government’s estimate of total separations in the entire private sector (41 percent).

The 2014 Study closes on April 30, 2014. Eligible dealers can enroll at www.nadaworkforcestudy.com. Email WorkforceStudy@nada.org or call 800.557.6232 with questions.

TITLE PROCESSING: REMINDER - COLORADO SPRINGS DOES NOT TAX REBATES

The Motor Vehicle Manager for El Paso County has asked CADA to remind all dealerships that the home rule city of Colorado Springs does not levy sales or use tax on rebates.  As a reminder, self-collected home-rule cities (see pages 8-10 on the DR1002) may tax this and any other item differently than the state and all other state-collected jurisdictions which follow a consistent set of rules.

Click here for a memo from the El Paso County DMV.

TITLE PROCESSING: REMINDER - FUEL TYPE ABBREVIATIONS

The state DMV – Emissions section has asked CADA to remind all dealerships of the importance of correctly denoting fuel types on title application paperwork.  If an error is not corrected at the county, consumers may inadvertently take a vehicle that does not require it in for testing or be incorrectly sent a renewal card for testing.  Hybrid vehicles are currently exempt from emission testing within the covered testing areas (although that is set to change in 2015).    See below for a list of fuel types and current emission testing status:
