GREEN CAR CONVOY

a
The 2014 Denver Auto Show kicks off this year with the Green Car Parade on Sunday, April 6, at the Colorado State Capitol. The parade has always been a big success with up to 40 “green” vehicles from new car dealerships on display each year. Last year, the Green Car Parade earned more than 15 broadcast media hits for Colorado new car dealers and an overwhelming response from the public.

This year, the vehicles will be on display at the Colorado State Capitol from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., and then the fleet will roll through Denver from the Capitol to the Convention Center. If you’re interested in displaying a vehicle, please fill out this online registration form.

REMINDER: OFF-PREMISE PERMITS FOR AUTO SHOW REQUIRED BEFORE THE AUTO SHOW

This is to remind all member dealers sending salespersons to the Denver Auto Show—which runs April 9th-13th—that an off-premise permit must be obtained BEFORE the start of the show.  Generally, an off-premise permit is required whenever a dealer representative will be engaging with prospective customers at an event or location away from licensed business locations.

Dealers need to submit the DR2043 application form (4 copies), along with the $300.00 fee (make checks payable to “Colorado Department of Revenue”), by end of business, Tuesday, April 8th, to the Auto Industry Division (“the Division”).

[NOTE:  When completing this form, the “sale ending date” is Sunday, the last day of the show.  Even though sales cannot be conducted on that day, it is still considered the ending date of the auto show].

Send forms and payment to the Auto Industry Division, 1881 Pierce Street, Suite 112, Lakewood, CO, 80214.

As in prior years, the Division will not issue a permit at the event; the application must be submitted in advance.

As the April 15th tax filing deadline approaches, dealerships often receive calls from prior customers on vehicle income tax credits related to purchases made earlier in the year.  As individual tax situations vary, and some aspects of how these laws and regulations are applied may be unclear, it is best to refrain from giving tax advice to consumers!  Visit the October 1, 2013 article, “Consumer Tax Incentives for Alternative / Innovative Vehicles: Department of Revenue Publication Available” for the latest state publications and resources available on this topic.

There is now a separate filing form, DR 0617, that consumers utilize for claiming these tax credits—which walks through the calculations.

Note that the latest summary of these tax credits, FYI Income 67 is also published on the state’s main Individual Income Tax information page.

DISCLAIMER: CADA is not authorized to dispense legal advice. The information contained in this weekly email is intended to provide important updates and reminders regarding statutes, litigation, and regulations. CADA always advises that dealers should consult legal counsel on the specifics of any laws or regulations to ensure proper compliance

Government Agency Enforcements on New Car and Truck Dealerships

Dealers across the US have seen significantly increased enforcement from state and federal agencies (OSHA, EPA, State DOL's, etc). These regulators have historically been very passive when it came to new car and truck dealers, but that is no longer the case. Dealers are receiving random visits and many have found themselves unprepared. In this webinar, learn about what you need to have in place to protect yourself and what other dealers have been fined for.
