2015 TIME MAGAZINE DEALER OF YEAR AWARD NOMINATIONS - DUE BY NOON THIS THURSDAY, JULY 31ST!

TIME Magazine, in cooperation with NADA, annually honors outstanding new car dealers in America. The first step in the nomination process is for CADA dealer members to submit candidates to the TDOY-Colorado Nominating Committee. The Committee’s recommendations then go to the CADA Executive Committee for selection of one nominee to submit to TIME Magazine. From the group of dealers nominated by each of the state associations, one winner will then be chosen by a panel of judges from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan. All nominees are honored and the winner is announced at the annual NADA Convention and Expo. The Colorado nominee becomes 2015 Colorado Dealer of the Year.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates must:
1. Be the designated operating head of a franchised new car dealership.

2. Be actively engaged in the management of his/her dealership at least 60 percent of the time the dealership is open.

3. Be an active member of both CADA and NADA for at least five years.

4. Agree to participate in TDOY activity during the 2015 NADA Convention and Expo in San Francisco, CA.
The nominee may not be a current NADA director.
Any dealer may submit a qualified nominee. As you make your recommendation, please keep in mind the dealer will be judged on the following: customer satisfaction, strong ethics, solid financial status, business volume, market share, and personnel satisfaction/quality and dealer association participation. Service to community through civic, political, or educational activities, and any other forms of service or contributions that benefit others are also strongly considered.

Please complete the following nomination ballot by Thursday, July 31, 2014, and Fax or email back to CADA, ATTENTION: Kim Harrison, 303.831.4205, kim.harrison@coloradodealers.org

AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

ASK YOUR MEMBER OF CONGRESS TO COSPONSOR CFPB REFORM BILL, H.R. 4811
NADA Legislative Update, July 2014

U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) introduced H.R. 4811, the Bureau Guidance Transparency Act, a bill that would require the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to be more transparent and accountable when it issues guidance. The bill would also rescind the March 2013 auto finance guidance issued by the CFPB that threatens dealer-assisted financing. On June 11, H.R. 4811 was reported out of the House Financial Services Committee by a bipartisan vote of 35-24. NADA needs your support before this bill comes to a vote in the U.S. House. IMPORTANT: Please call your Representative at 202.225.3121 and ask them to cosponsor H.R 4811.

REMINDER:  COLORADO EMISSIONS VOUCHERS

Most Colorado dealerships are aware of state emissions requirements.  However, dealers must ensure that they retain proof that the statutory requirements have been met.

As a reminder, when selling a used vehicle to a buyer that resides in the enhanced program areas*, the dealer is required to provide the buyer with a passing enhanced emissions test or a voucher that is to be delivered to the buyer at the time of sale. The voucher is to be filled out by the dealer with the selling dealers name and the vehicle’s VIN number and then signed and dated by the buyer.

*Visit the state emissions web page for more information and boundaries for the program area.

It is important that dealerships meet these statutory requirements in the event of a later consumer dispute regarding the operation or functioning of the car that might cause the consumer to try to look for a basis on which to unwind the deal.

It is recommended that dealers retain a copy of the voucher in their files or the vehicle deal jacket for one year. The voucher copy is proof that the dealer provided the buyer with an emissions voucher.

BACK AND MATERIALS HANDLING

Strains due to lifting are one of the most frequent causes of injury for Pinnacol policyholders. Sixty percent of these claims involve the lower back and shoulder. Traditional approaches to controlling back injuries, such as proper lifting training and stretching programs, have not been successful
in reducing injuries. In this class, participants will learn the most effective strategies for reducing the frequency and severity of back injury claims. This class is designed for policyholders in “fixed industrial settings” such as manufacturing, warehousing and food processing.

Topics include:

  • The most high-risk job tasks for back and shoulder injuries

  • Ergonomic design principles for manual material handling
  • An evaluation of the seven common lifting techniques

  • An assessment tool to evaluate the recommended weight limits for lifting tasks
