PARTICIPATION IN 2015 DEALERSHIP WORKFORCE STUDY OPEN THROUGH MAY 29, 2015

NADA’s fourth annual Dealership Workforce Study (DWS) is open for participation at www.nadaworkforcestudy.com. Designed to help dealers address the challenge of attracting and keeping the best employees, the DWS collects data on compensation, employee benefits, retention and turnover, and work schedules and hours of operation, and reports on these as well as on demographic issues such as the gender and generational gaps in the dealership workforce.  Participation, which involves completing a survey and uploading payroll data, is free and open only to NADA and ATD members.

Participants receive two complimentary reports—a customized report comparing their own dealership's data against aggregated data from peers in their region and the nation, and an overall analysis of the industry and data for each region of the U.S.

AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

New FAQs and materials available

Electronic Lien and Title (ELT) will soon be rolling out in Colorado – May 1st is the target implementation date.

Implementation and transition to electronic liens/titles will happen gradually as lenders must sign up with ELT service providers and any new transactions are then elected to be processed electronically.   The final contract and applications for service providers and lenders were just completed and released last week, so there may be limited lenders as of May 1st.  Titles currently issued and in existence will be processed as they are today.
The following materials have been made available:

  • CO ELT Flyer for Dealers
  • CO ELT Guide
  • CO ELT FAQs
  • DR2395 Title Application (Rev. 04/02/2015).  Updated to add field header where the new ELT E-Number will go; the prior revision (02/22/2011) will continue to be acceptable. Other changes were made to this form as well, so re-programming will be necessary.  For now, the ELT E-Number can also be placed on the same box in the prior form for those beginning to submit deals with ELT participating lenders.

Visit the prior announcement in the April 7th issue of Open Road for an overview.

Visit the state Electronic Lien and Title page for updated information.

After reviewing this information, if you have further questions, please send to the contacts below so we can further expand the FAQs to cover common dealer questions.

COALITION TO SIMPLIFY COLORADO SALES TAX

The Coalition to Simplify Colorado Sales Tax seeks to simplify the state's overly complex sales and use tax system, which puts a nearly impossible burden on businesses in Colorado—especially those that work across local jurisdiction boundaries.  Dealerships seem to be particularly lucrative targets given the high retail value of vehicles.  Further, the mobile nature of vehicles and the cross-jurisdiction issues raised when a buyer lives in one jurisdiction and works in another often catch dealers in the middle.  CADA and other key business organizations have formed a coalition dedicated to reforms that will create a simple, fair and predictable system--without reducing overall revenue for local and state public services.

Making these reforms a priority of elected officials will take dedicated, grassroots efforts by businesses of all sizes and industries across the state.  Register as a supporter to receive updates, or submit a story of your own experience that demonstrates the complexity of sales/use taxes in Colorado: www.simplifycosalestax.org.

FEDERATED INSURANCE: AUTO DEALER CLAIM OF THE MONTH

Federated Insurance’s “Claim of the Month” – Could it happen to you?

A sales rep drove a high-end demo home. That evening, she took friends out for dinner and drinks. On the way home, she caused an accident that resulted in two serious injuries, and the death of a single mother of three.
CLAIM AMOUNT: $3.5 million

What policies are in place to help prevent this from happening at your dealership? Do you know who’s driving your vehicles? Federated Insurance recommends several best practices to help protect your business and manage risks; for example,

  • Know your drivers. Order MVRs on all employees who may drive company vehicles.
  • Limit the number of demos.
  • Transfer the risk: get the title out of the dealership’s name.

These are just a few loss control recommendations you can use to help protect your dealership. To learn more, contact your local Federated Insurance representative and request a copy of our Auto Dealer “Keys to Success” risk management education materials. Federated Insurance is recommended by 18 state and national auto dealer associations just like yours for customized insurance programs and value-added risk management services, such as Federated’s Shield Network®, the Risk Management Resource Center, and the Federated Employment Practices NetworkSM. Visit www.federatedinsurance.com to discover resources you can use to create or ramp up your own risk management program, or to contact your local representative.
