PARTICIPATION IN 2015 DEALERSHIP WORKFORCE STUDY OPEN THROUGH MAY 29, 2015

NADA’s fourth annual Dealership Workforce Study (DWS) is open for participation at www.nadaworkforcestudy.com. Designed to help dealers address the challenge of attracting and keeping the best employees, the DWS collects data on compensation, employee benefits, retention and turnover, and work schedules and hours of operation, and reports on these as well as on demographic issues such as the gender and generational gaps in the dealership workforce.  Participation, which involves completing a survey and uploading payroll data, is free and open only to NADA and ATD members.

Participants to-date:

DEALERSHIP

Alpine Buick GMC

Berthod Motors Inc

Emich Chevrolet

Emich Volkswagen

Glenwood Springs Ford

Glenwood Springs Subaru

Hellman Motor Co

Markley Motors Inc

McCandless Truck Center LLC

Medved Chevrolet Cadillac

Mountain Chevrolet

Stapp Interstate Toyota Scion

The Faricy Boys Chrysler Jeep

>> A blue fill means they have completed the survey, but not the payroll upload.

>>A green fill means they have completed everything—survey and payroll.

>>A blank fill means they have enrolled only (and done nothing else).

Participants receive two complimentary reports—a customized report comparing their own dealership's data against aggregated data from peers in their region and the nation, and an overall analysis of the industry and data for each region of the U.S.

CLEAR THE AIR FOUNDATION 60 SECOND VIDEO

a
AUTO INDUSTRY NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

…more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

Electronic Lien and Title (ELT) implementation has been postponed from May 1st to May 26th.   The Department of Revenue Title and Registration Section will begin issuing Lender E-numbers on May 22nd (for programming purposes, this will be a new 20-character field that dealers will need to obtain from participating lenders and include on the title application).

Continue to visit the state Electronic Lien and Title page for updated information – including a listing of lender E-numbers that will be posted and updated as new lenders sign up to participate.

Visit the April 14th issue of Open Road more information on ELT (including a link to the revised DR2395 form).

Additionally, the Title and Registration section has agreed to provide more time for all to use up existing inventory of the previous title application form, DR2395.  The cut-off date for the prior version is now Sept. 1st (based on sale/transaction date).

The information contained in this weekly email is intended to provide important updates and reminders regarding statutes, litigation, and regulations. CADA always advises that dealers should consult legal counsel on the specifics of any laws or regulations to ensure proper compliance.

COALITION TO SIMPLIFY COLORADO SALES TAX

The Coalition to Simplify Colorado Sales Tax seeks to simplify the state's overly complex sales and use tax system, which puts a nearly impossible burden on businesses in Colorado—especially those that work across local jurisdiction boundaries.  Dealerships seem to be particularly lucrative targets given the high retail value of vehicles.  Further, the mobile nature of vehicles and the cross-jurisdiction issues raised when a buyer lives in one jurisdiction and works in another often catch dealers in the middle.  CADA and other key business organizations have formed a coalition dedicated to reforms that will create a simple, fair and predictable system--without reducing overall revenue for local and state public services.

Making these reforms a priority of elected officials will take dedicated, grassroots efforts by businesses of all sizes and industries across the state.  Register as a supporter to receive updates, or submit a story of your own experience that demonstrates the complexity of sales/use taxes in Colorado: www.simplifycosalestax.org.

FEDERATED INSURANCE: AUTO DEALER CLAIM OF THE MONTH

Federated Insurance’s “Claim of the Month” – Could it happen to you?

A sales rep drove a high-end demo home. That evening, she took friends out for dinner and drinks. On the way home, she caused an accident that resulted in two serious injuries, and the death of a single mother of three.
CLAIM AMOUNT: $3.5 million

What policies are in place to help prevent this from happening at your dealership? Do you know who’s driving your vehicles? Federated Insurance recommends several best practices to help protect your business and manage risks; for example,

  • Know your drivers. Order MVRs on all employees who may drive company vehicles.
  • Limit the number of demos.
  • Transfer the risk: get the title out of the dealership’s name.

These are just a few loss control recommendations you can use to help protect your dealership. To learn more, contact your local Federated Insurance representative and request a copy of our Auto Dealer “Keys to Success” risk management education materials. Federated Insurance is recommended by 18 state and national auto dealer associations just like yours for customized insurance programs and value-added risk management services, such as Federated’s Shield Network®, the Risk Management Resource Center, and the Federated Employment Practices NetworkSM. Visit www.federatedinsurance.com to discover resources you can use to create or ramp up your own risk management program, or to contact your local representative.
