AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

  • Ritter kicks-off new ethanol plant
    The Pueblo Chieftain,  March 16
The nation's exasperating and increasing dependence on foreign oil is making consumers thirst for the alternative fuel ethanol, giving rise to a growing business that has reached Southeastern Colorado.

  • Small cars will become tiny as Europe fights climate change
    The Detroit News,  March 16
You could say that if European cars shrunk any more we might as well all drive around in hybrid golf-carts.

But the European Union's (E.U.) likely insistence on savage new fuel efficiency targets will lead to another round of weight slashing and downsizing. Unless some new technology miracle suddenly brings the carbon age to an end, cars here will look more like invalid carriages, able to overtake bicycles with ease going downhill, with a following wind.

EPA TIGHTENS POLLUTION STANDARDS
The Washington Post,  March 13

The Environmental Protection Agency has decided to lower the allowable amount of smog-forming ozone in the air to 75 parts per billion, a level significantly higher than what the agency's scientific advisers urged for this key component of unhealthy air pollution, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

NEW EPA OZONE STANDARDS CAN DOUBLE COLORADO'S VIOLATION RATE
The Associated Press
,  March 13

DENVER (AP) The new air quality standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency mean Colorado will be out of compliance at more than twice the rate it is now.

HOW GREEN DO YOU DRIVE?
The Denver Post,  March 13

Denver officials unveiled a program Tuesday aimed at taming lead-footed drivers to save the environment, one car at a time.

The Driving Change pilot program uses an acceleration meter and wireless technology to monitor a driver's gas-guzzling jackrabbit starts, hard braking and idling time.

ADVERTISEMENTS MUST INCLUDE DEALERSHIP NAME
This includes internet postings—by either the dealership or any salespersons

A reminder to all dealerships that any “advertisement” placed by a dealership—or any sales personnel—must include the dealership’s name. This includes internet postings, including those on craigslist (a free web site, typically used for consumer-to-consumer purchases). The Auto Industry Division has asked CADA to remind dealerships of this requirement. The employing dealership is ultimately responsible for postings/advertisements placed by agents or sales personnel.

12-6-125. Advertisement - inclusion of dealer name. No motor vehicle dealer or used motor vehicle dealer or any agent of either of said dealers shall advertise any offer for the sale, lease, or purchase of a motor vehicle or a used motor vehicle which creates the false impression that the vehicle is being offered by a private party or by a motor vehicle agent or which does not contain the name of the dealer or the word “dealer” or, if the name is contained in the offer and does not clearly reflect that the business is a dealer, both the name of the dealer and the word “dealer”.

CLICK HERE for the Jan. 10, 2007, issue of Open Road with a link to the state Advertising Regulations, as well as a memo highlighting several other key aspects of state advertising regulations.

DENVER INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW - OFF-SITE PERMITS REQUIRED

The upcoming Denver Auto Show provides dealers the opportunity to market to new customers and show off the latest and even futuristic, concept cars.

If your sales staff plan to work the show, please be aware of the off-premise permit needed to comply with the state’s guidelines for off-site sales activity. Additionally, off-premise permit applications must be made to the Auto Industry Division before the start of the overall show (Wednesday, March 26).

CLICK HERE for the off-premise permit application. CLICK HERE for a CADA Memo with more details on off-site permits.

REMINDER: SUNDAY SALES ARE PROHIBITED AT
THE DENVER INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

This is to remind all member dealers who intend to participate in the Denver International Auto Show this year that your sales representatives cannot sell or offer to sell vehicles on Sunday. CADA has always advised sales representatives to refrain from discussing any specifics regarding price, terms, financing, or aspects of an actual sale or offer to sell. On Sunday, discussions with consumers need to be focused on educating consumers on vehicle features. The off-site permit for the auto show does NOT permit Sunday sales; off-site events are still subject to the Sunday closing law.

CLICK HERE to review a memo with more details regarding the Sunday closing law and the auto show.
