AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AT A GLANCE
Listed here are several articles pertaining to the auto industry that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.
- Car makers set to survive tsunami but fight of CO2
The Detroit News, April 12
European manufacturers are currently in the smug zone. They are better placed than usual to weather the upcoming storm. Their prospects could be the definition of a virtuous spiral. Fixed costs have been brought down, productivity is impressive, and capital spending has been reined in.
- Quality has hitch for Ford dealers
Detroit Free Press, April 12
Ford Motor Co. is improving the quality of its cars and trucks but, in an ironic twist, the gains come at a price for dealers who have come to depend on regular warranty work to keep their stores in the black.
- Nissan goes after U.S. work trucks
The Detroit News, April 8
Nissan North America Inc. is out to loosen the stranglehold that Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. have on the business of selling light trucks to commercial customers.
The Japan-based automaker on Monday announced plans to launch three new commercial vehicles for U.S. consumers starting in 2010. The American subsidiary of Japan-based Nissan Motor Co. said it will spend $118 million to expand and retool its plant in Canton, Miss., to build vans and trucks.
CADA forwards news articles and opinion columns of interest

BILL REQUIRING MINIMUM AUTO SOUND LEVELS EXPECTED
Automotive News, April 9
Legislation setting a minimum sound level for vehicles sold in the United States by as early as 2010 is expected to be introduced today in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The bill would require the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to lead a study to determine if a minimum sound level is needed to protect pedestrians, specifically the blind. And if such a level is necessary, the bill would set it.

NADA LOGIN ID/PASSWORD CAN BE OBTAINED ONLINE
The NADA web site contains a wealth of information and links on Federal compliance/regulatory matters. In CADA Legal & Regulatory Open Road articles, we often include links to specific NADA publications or regulatory information available on the members-only section of the NADA web site. Additionally, when purchasing publications, being logged in allows you order items at the lower members-only price. We receive calls periodically asking about how to obtain login information to access these materials.
Management staff of NADA member dealers can go to the main NADA web site, and follow these simple steps to obtain an ID/Password to access detailed information that is only available to NADA member dealers.
- Go to www.nada.org
- At the very top-right, blue bar that displays “Welcome, you are not logged in….”, select “CREATE LOGIN”
- Follow the detailed instructions on how to register; including where/how to find
your “company ID” or to request it directly from NADA. Additionally, CADA can look up your NADA company number as well; feel free to call the main desk here at 303.831.1722.

LOVELAND DEALER AND SONS TO RIDE FOR ROTARY
For the next three summers, Ryan Ferrero and his two sons will take a 1,000-mile bike ride across the United States to support the Loveland Rotary Club. Ferrero, owner of Ferrero I-25 Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Loveland, Riley, 9, and Dylan, 7, will ride on a Pino Tour tandem hybrid bike for this event.
Ridin' for Rotary is a charitable ride to support their dictionary project, with a goal of more than $5,000. The purpose of this bike ride is for every 3rd grader in the Thompson R2-J School District to receive a dictionary courtesy of the Loveland Rotary Club.
Between June 19 and July 3, 2008, the three "boys" will be dipping the traditional rear-tire in the Pacific in Astoria, Oregon. Then the Ferreros will ride a self-supported 800-mile solo tour through the Oregon Cascade Mountain Range through Boise, completing their first of three legs in Sun Valley, Idaho. Summer 2009 and 2010 will complete the journey in Washington DC where the front wheel will be dipped in the Atlantic.
"We will raise money to ensure that every 3rd grader receives the New Heritage full-color hard-backed dictionary," said Ryan.
