AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AT A GLANCE

Listed here are several articles pertaining to the
auto industry in general that appeared recently in newspapers and other media outlets across the nation.

  • Japanese see Hyundai as 'awesome' threat
    The Washington Times, October 3
Hyundai Motor Co. - not the up-and-coming Chinese, nor the leaner, meaner Americans - is the automaker that has the Japanese seriously worried.
  • Haley: Seeking a new message
    Denver Post, October 4
Even though it's not an election year, Rep. David Balmer has been out knocking on his neighbors' doors, checking the pulse of his statehouse district.
  • GM's return policy may not be worth the hassle
    The Detroit News, September 27
You fell in love with that $22,000 Chevy Malibu because of its color, style and price. After driving it home, you realize it's not what you wanted. Maybe it's the way it handles on the highway, the location of the cup holders or the shape of the seats.
  • Carmakers fight hike in ethanol at pump
    The Detroit News, September 28

A push by corn-producing states and alternative fuel proponents to increase federal rules boosting the amount of ethanol mixed into gasoline is being fought by automakers because it would be costly and could damage engines.
  • Chrysler group mulls how to make most of Fiat's technology
    The Detroit News, September 26
The Chrysler Group LLC board met in Auburn Hills on Friday to figure out how best to use Fiat engineering and technology to make future products such as midsize sedans -- and where.
  • Think City electric car almost adequate
    The Detroit News, September 26
When the Think City arrives in 2011, it won't look like the car I drove for three days.
  • Detroit's fight against vacant land gets tougher
    Detroit Free Press, September 29

In case anyone doubted it, Detroit's vacant land problem, already bad, is getting worse in a hurry.
  • October truck sales could reveal strength of recovery
    Detroit Free Press, September 28
Monthly auto sales, which are reported Thursday, should be the news highlight of the week.
  • Dollar falls below 89 yen to eight-month low
    Detroit Free Press, September 28
The dollar fell below 89 yen Monday and hovered around eight-month lows in mid-morning trading as Japan's finance minister reiterated his opposition to intervening in foreign exchange markets.
  • USA Today, Open Road
  • …more news articles are included at the end of this issue.

CARS / CASH FOR CLUNKERS - TITLE BRANDING FOR THE CLUNKER TRADE INS

Now that the CARs program is officially over (all payments were to be made by September 30th, and all trade-in were to be disabled within seven days of receiving reimbursement), dealers should ensure that the state of Colorado is notified of all of the junked cars so those titles can be updated accordingly.

Dealerships should supply the state with a photo copy of the title stamped “Junk Automobile, CARS.gov", front and back.  Copies should be mailed to:

Colorado Department of Revenue
DMV - Titles Section
Denver, CO 80261-0016

LEGISLATIVE POLICY COMMITTEE LEADERS PASS THE TORCH

After two years of tremendous success under their leadership of CADA’s Legislative Policy Committee (LPC), Matt Tynan and Don Hicks transitioned out of their positions at an appreciation dinner held by CADA at Root Down last Thursday night.  Joined by their spouses, multiple dealers and CADA staff, Matt and Don graciously spoke about their work and accomplishments.  Matt and Don were honored with beautiful awards hand-carved in the symbol of victory to commemorate their commitment and success.  As of last week’s dinner, Ben Faricy and Todd Bondy will take over as the co-chairs of the LPC.  We are excited for their leadership as we prepare for the 2010 Legislative Session.  Big THANK YOU to Matt Tynan and Don Hicks for your commitment, meaningful contributions, and amazing dedication to CADA over the last 2 years.
