  • Ford chief is staying, but not forever

    Ford's Executive Chairman Bill Ford likes to joke that President and CEO Alan Mulally, who saved his great-grandfather's auto company from the brink of ruin and has become a beloved and respected figure at Ford, won't be leaving anytime soon.
  • Ford's turnaround gains momentum
    Detroit Free Press, November 22
    After more than $16.8 billion in losses since 2005, Ford Motor Co.'s North American division has been gaining momentum and recently posted a quarterly profit -- early evidence of a successful turnaround, according to Mark Fields, Ford executive vice president and president of the Americas.
  • AAA Michigan: State gas prices up 4.1 cents

    AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are up 4.1 cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $2.61.
  • GM creditors may recover some lost funds

    Unsecured creditors who lost billions when General Motors Corp. filed bankruptcy last summer could get a rare windfall Tuesday if a judge approves a nearly $1.9 million settlement.
  • Germany warns fellow EU governments against GM jobs aid
    The Detroit News, November 23
    Germany warned fellow European governments on Monday against offering financial aid to General Motors Europe in exchange for job guarantees, hours ahead of a meeting in Brussels to discuss the future of the company.
  • Honda leads in fuel efficiency
    The Detroit News, November 21
    Honda Motor Co. has the most fuel efficient fleet in the United States, followed closely by Hyundai Motor Co., the Environmental Protection Agency said Friday in releasing preliminary figures for 2009.
  • Cadillac unveils luxury sports coupe
    The Detroit News, November 23
    Cadillac introduces the 2011 CTS Coupe today.

GUEST COLUMN: ROUND UP THE USUAL SUSPECTS

Over the last year, dealers have devoted most if not all of their attention to keeping their dealerships afloat. They’ve spent time cutting staff, combining job duties and slashing costs as they watched extraordinary events unfold in the automobile industry.   That has not left much time to study what else is going on around them.

There is no question that the Obama Administration has brought change and will be bringing more in the months ahead.  One area where we already see evidence of this is in the U. S. Department of Labor. Hilda Solis, the new Secretary of Labor, has announced that she intends to aggressively enforce the country’s minimum wage and overtime laws, and she is hiring 250 new investigators to help her do just that.

A reminder that the state Auto Industry Division of the Department of Revenue (as well as other state offices) will be closed this Friday as a mandatory furlough day. Governor Ritter announced these furlough days due to state budget woes:
