    FOX 31, December 1
  • Now is the time to find good deals on new cars
    USA Today, November 26

  • Auto crisis tests family's hold on Ford
    The Detroit News, November 26
Federal aid package could jeopardize heir's control of storied automaker.
  • Big Three fine-tune aid pitch
    The Detroit News, November 26
Detroit's Big Three automakers worked furiously behind the scenes Tuesday to craft beefed-up restructuring plans that outline more cost cuts and other tough measures to convince Congress to approve a $25 billion bailout.
  • Economic reality to take some pizzazz out of auto show
    The Detroit News, November 26
The mood will be sober, there will be fewer automakers in attendance, and there won't be as many off-site lavish parties at this year's North American International Auto Show given the dire economic cloud hanging over the auto industry.
  • Workers from across U.S. to visit D.C. to support auto aid
    Detroit Free Press, November 26
A coalition of organizations representing more than 6 million U.S. auto industry jobs announced this afternoon plans to send workers Dec. 5 to Washington to support the automakers in their request for federal aid.

  • Financial industry rescue criticized as double standard
    Detroit Free Press, November 25
While Detroit's automakers prepare a detailed plea for $25 billion in federal loans, the Bush administration moved to pump $20 billion into investment bank Citigroup and absorb some of its losses with far fewer restrictions than automakers may face, a deal Michigan lawmakers and some experts called a blatant double standard Monday.
  • Nissan Pulls Out of Auto Shows In Detroit, Chicago Amid Slump
The Wall Street Journal, November 25
Nissan Motor Co. is withdrawing from the Detroit and Chicago auto shows because the economic slump has tightened marketing budgets and the company has no major product launches in the near future.
  • Gas Prices Spiral Down to Near $2
The Wall Street Journal, November 21
The sudden reversal -- the fastest and sharpest since 1980, when the government began tracking monthly gasoline prices -- is bringing relief to some and complicating business for others.
  • Auto drama a long way from over
    Detroit Free Press, November 25
Don't despair, Detroit, about hopes for automotive industry rescue loans just because the Detroit Three CEOs got beat up in Washington last week and became comedy fodder for "Saturday Night Live."
  • Report: GM Is Considering Selling Saab, Pontiac, Saturn Brands
The Wall Street Journal, November 26

  • The American Auto Industry's Political Problem
The Wall Street Journal, November 25

FIXED-OPS GROWTH STRATEGIES NEXT WEEK!

Traditional thinking will not bring you new service customers

December 9-11, 2008; Six Sessions Across Colorado!

A thought-provoking, information-packed, business-changing workshop by a highly renowned consultant: Don Tipton has presented for many
state dealer associations and 20-Groups.

IT IS TIME TO CREATE A NEW IMAGE AND FIND INNOVATIVE WAYS TO:

  • Provide service that will drive sales
  • Create an environment that attracts customers…instead of marketing to
    drive customers
  • Your service department may be perceived to be “High-Priced” and “Inconvenient”,
especially by customers with older, high mileage, or out of warranty vehicles.
  • Traditional pricing and customer handling procedures tend to reinforce this
    perception.
  • Your old performance indicators and benchmarks may be getting in the way

Presented by Don Tipton, President-DTC Retail Consulting, www.dtcretailconsulting.com

Don Tipton, still an active dealership consulltany today, offers "In the Trenches" automotive experience combined with knowledge of proven management techniques. Don began in the automotive business at the age of 8, working for his father, a parts and service manager. Don has held management positions a both small single point stores and large multi-dealer operations at the corporate level. He spent a number of years with what was the largest automotive fixed operations consulting firm in the country, conducting training seminars and in-dealership consulting. He is passionate about this business and the success of dealers.

PUNCH LINES, DRIVING MACHINES AND ATTITUDE
Wende Curtis (Comedy Works) and Lisa Schomp (Schomp BMW) launch expanded businesses in a tough climate
.
ColoradoBiz, December 1

Wende Curtis and Lisa Schomp (right) come from slightly different perspectives. Curtis, the owner of two comedy clubs and related booking and marketing businesses, counts herself among the bleeding hearts and was ecstatic when Barack Obama won the presidential election Nov. 4. Schomp, the owner of three Ralph Schomp Automotive dealerships and Fay Myers Motorcycle World, had the honor of introducing John McCain to a roomful of Republican women when he stumped in Colorado. The two entrepreneurs probably could find some common ground: Over the past month, both launched expanded businesses during shaky economic times.

NADA 2009 CONVENTION AND EXPOSITION

aNew Orleans is now the eighth fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. To show support for the rebirth of New Orleans, NADA is headed back to the Big Easy to hold its 92nd annual convention and exposition there Jan. 24-27, 2009.

“The theme for our New Orleans convention is 'Voice of the Dealer® ... Committed to Community.' What better way to show that commitment than for us to be there in full strength at one of NADA's favorite convention cities," said Annette Sykora, 2008 NADA Chairman. NADA has held its convention in New Orleans every few years for the past 30 years.
