A topic of great debate and popularity is the current whirlwind surrounding "green" ideals, eco-friendly impact, and global warming. This growing subculture of society has resulted in one of the fastest-growing sectors of product development, building development, lifestyle modifications, and notably a marked evolution in transportation.  


In conjunction with the move toward meeting consumers' demand for Earth-friendly products, companies have began investing significant amounts of capital in researching, testing, and producing the next generation of "green" products.


Auto manufacturers have seen a dramatic shift within the last five years with the advent of E-85 capabilities, widespread hybrid technology, diesel alternatives including "clean diesel", and a wide array of developing technologies. The reason for the increase is two-fold. First, consumer demand for vehicles that utilize more efficient fuel standards, as well as adhering to the recent popularity of the hip green lifestyle. Second, government mandates dictating standards to be imposed upon the auto industry.

The state Titles and Registrations Division has issued
a memo indicating that Secure and Verifiable ID (SVID)
is not required on vehicles that are owned or leased by
a government entity.


The term government entity includes: a state, county, city, town, service authority, school district, local improvement district, law enforcement authority, city or county housing authority, or water, sanitation, fire protection, metropolitan, irrigation, drainage, or other special district or any other kind of municipal, quasi-municipal, or public corporation organized pursuant to law.

Auto Industry Division: Revised Salesperson Application Form

The Auto Industry Division (AID) has released a new version of the Salesperson
License Application (DR 2115), and also created a new one (DR 2115 WEB) for use
with the online salesperson application. Primarily, the form has been updated to reflect
the requirements that previously went into effect at the beginning of this year regarding proof of lawful presence for the issue of state licenses.CADA informed dealers of these new requirements in the Jan. 3, inaugural issue of Open Road.

that the "other" forms of ID (which includes out-of-state drivers' licenses) that had
initially been acceptable until March 1, 2007 were extended to continue to be allowable
until July 1, 2007.

Two Local Dealers Featured on Cover of National Magazine

Colorado auto dealers have two cover models in our midst--Christina Dawkins and Ryan Ferrero of Motorplex in Centerra can be seen gracing the cover of the May issue of NADA's AutoExec magazine.

If you are not familiar with the new Motorplex, it is
the region's first master-planned auto park located in Loveland, offering more than 100 acres of retail space for dealers, as
well as a nearby planned community of homes, stores, restaurants and even a hospital.


Dawkins recently moved her BMW location from Fort Collins and saw her customer base triple, and Ferrero's Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge store moved from a cramped space
four miles away to a space twice as big.

According to the article, Ferrero's dealership "went from a mom-and-pop small-town
store to being a regional superstore."

Motorplex has plans for 11 dealerships in all. The auto park is located at the interchange
of Crossroads Boulevard and I-25, near Fort Collins which was named last year by
magazine as the No. 1 small city to live in America.

The Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) is a nationwide partnership of
dealers and selected high school and technical prep schools, working together to encourage young people's participation in a career in the auto industry. Robert C. Sidebottom is the Colorado AYES manager who works with dealerships and students
on internship programs and educational endeavors.
He has several students from Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs who are looking for auto experience and
are available for interning this summer.

On many auto industry topics, the public is receiving only part of the story through the mainstream press. CADA is here to help answer some of their questions on topics the press is covering, including:

  • Congress is considering tougher than reasonable increases in CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards, while state-by-state, legislators consider standards than are tougher than the national standards.

  • Colorado’s General Assembly, just off a session that provided huge incentives for development of renewable energy, is now considering tougher carbon emission standards than Congress has enacted nationally.

  • Without doubt, fuel price increases are changing the way consumers purchase vehicles. But is the consumer informed of the fundamental changes in technology and diverse fuel and power sources the automotive industry has already developed?  Consumers, as they have done in every previous energy cost acceleration scenario, are moving toward industry-provided alternatives. Yet, the choices for consumers could become dramatically limited if Congress or the Colorado General Assembly overreach.
