WELD COUNTY GARAGE TURNS 100
By Bud Wells, Saturday Drive

As General Motors observes its 100th anniversary, so does Weld County Garage, the Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealer in Greeley. “We’re so blessed,” said Warren Yoder, co-owner of the dealership, “to be associated with many, many longtime customers and to be able to offer our large facility’s automotive services to people from all over the region.”

Weld County Garage was moved to its present site at the busy U.S. 34 Bypass/47th Avenue area, beside Ehrlich Toyota, after operating at 8th Avenue and 10th Street in downtown Greeley previously. The business was started in 1908 as a little blacksmith shop, which also repaired and sold wagons. Founder was D.R. McArthur, who soon obtained the franchise for the Buick automobile (GMC and Pontiac were added later).

Following management by Larry and Don McArthur for many years, the dealership underwent several ownership changes before Lee Yoder, Warren’s father, bought it from Larry Eaton in 1982. The Yoders operate today on an 11-acre site, with the Weld County Garage structure containing a 10-car showroom and 31 service bays, with capacity for 250 new and used cars on the lot. A body shop and separate commercial repair facility are also operated.
